Caffeine Kids

I was getting some work done this morning at a coffee shop and noticed a consistent flow of parents coming in with their kids and getting them all kinds of coffee drinks. A few minutes ago, a guy came in with his two girls who were both younger than 11 and they each got 16 ounce sized coffees! A lady came in right after with her daughter who was around 9 or 10 and bought her a nonfat latte with a shot of espresso. These kids were coming in and telling the barista exactly what they wanted, which means they most likely do this quite often…wow!

Heck, what do I know, maybe this is just a sign of the times and I need to get with it but my question is why?

Do kids this young even need shots of espresso and large coffee drinks? I don’t mean to sound as if I am over-reacting to such a minor thing nor am I insinuating that this is going to harm these children. However, common sense tells me that it is a bit unnecessary and with the endless amounts of energy that children possess, it seems like a waste of money and time that could be better spent on other things.
